Vieles Neue steht  Sizilien und seiner Hauptstadt Palermo auch 2026 wieder bevor. Kurz von einer neunen Ostersaison, die immer den Auftakt bietet, für die neue Touristensaison.
Längst Vergangenheit ist der auf Sizilien nicht vermutete Fasching. An der Nordwestküste wird er besonders in Termini Imerese und Casteldaccia, mit geschmückten und thematischen Umzugswägen, gefeiert. An der Ostküste bildet Archireale die Hochburg des Karnevals. Zu Ostern ist die "Verkleidung" anderer Natur. In Demut und Trauer und Angedenken des Leides der Mutter Gottes über den Tod Ihres Sohnes Jesu Christi, wird hier Hand angelegt an die vielen Prozessionswägen. Aber auch Durchhaltevermögen und Standhaftigkeit sind gefragt bei den schweren Lasten, die teilweise durch die Stadt getragen werden.Trapani ist hierzu der Mittelpunkt, mit Karfreitagsprozession ausgehend von der Chiesa del Purgatorio. Die holzgeschnitzten Passionskulpturen sind einige Jahrhunderte alt. Die Bruderschaften der vielen Kirchen Palermos bereiten sich auf die Karwoche vor. Die Prozessionen sind ein Vermächtnis der Spanischen Vorherrschaft und tragen Volksfestcharakter und Inbrust in einem.
Sie sind auch der verlängerte Arm der Parallelgesellschaft, die sich hier in traditioneller und katholischer Art und Weise der Bevölkerung manifestiert.

They are also the extended arm of the always mentioned "parallel society", which manifests itself here in it´s traditional and Catholic way to the Sicilian population.


2021 hat Palermo nach dem Aachner Beschluß (Karlspreis Aachen 2019) ein Deutsch-Französisches Institut bekommen. Gelebtes Europa, an seinen mediterranen Außengrenzen. Hier werden bildende Künstler aus beiden Ländern und Italien gefördert. 2022 wird mitunter ganz im Gedenken und der Erinnerung an die schrecklichen Mafia Morde an den Staatsanwälten Giovanni Falcone und Paolo Borsellino stehen
